Abigail got up around 7:30. I was already awake so I got up and let Chris go back to sleep. After he got up, I started working on mixing up cookie dough while he was installing a new ceiling fan in the kitchen. Later, we worked on peeling and slicing apples. I made a pie for us but froze most of the apples. Abigail cooperated so I was able to clean and wax the kitchen floor while Chris was cleaning and doing things in the garage. Grandma came over to bring a plant that she had that was too big for her house now. She stayed and played with Abigail for a little while.

We still were trying to not use the pacifier, which of course meant a lot of fussing. But, she would settle down and go to sleep. I did give her the binky in the afternoon b/c I needed her to go to sleep. Chris rode his bike home from work. There was a guy that borrowed our truck to move and he brought it back soon after Chris got home. Then we got ready and went to Parkersburg. We stopped at Toys R Us to get a carseat. Since we got the convertible carseat at the carseat check last week, we missed the convenience of the infant carrier. So, we went to get one at Toys R Us but they were out. We ate at Red Lobster. We tried to give Abigail carrots while we were waiting for our food, but it didn't work out as good as we had hoped. After we ate, we went to Sam's Club and Wal-Mart. We finally found a carseat at K-Mart and we went to Home Depot to get a ceiling fan for the kitchen. I gave Abigail a bottle while I was waiting for Chris at Home Depot. She fell asleep on the way home. When we got home, we gave her cereal and put her to bed.

Abigail's physical therapist came at 10, then it was naptime again. Chris came home for lunch. Late afternoon, I was reading a book we have and got thinking about Abigail and her pacifier. I guess it is common for babies to wake up often during naps or at night b/c they don't know how to soothe themselves back to sleep. So, we tried to let her cry herself to sleep. It didn't work too well to start with but she slept for 9 hrs straight at night.

My aunt, uncle and cousins are coming in on Monday and another aunt, uncle and cousins (with spouses and children) are coming next Friday. So, my mom and I decided to do a couple of meals ahead of time and put them in the freezer. She came over around 10:30 so we could work on making lasagna. I had started some of it before she came, but for putting it together, it was good that she was here. We had enough stuff left so that is what I made for us for supper. While it was in the oven, I tried carrots with Abigail and she did good with them. Mom started teaching the Cradle Roll class on Weds. I had to hold Abigail on my lap for part of it cause she was a little fussy, but she did good other than that. She loves watching the other kids. We came home and gave her cereal and a bottle then put her to bed. She woke up a couple times in the night but didn't have a bottle.

Today would've been my grandma wells' 84th Birthday.

Abigail slept in until 8. When we got up, I talked to mom and we decided to go to town. Dad was off some this week, so mom could go without worrying about Gpa Wells. We thought about going walking, but I wasn't sure if we would have enough time. So, we went to IGA and K-Mart then to eat at Ryan's. I didn't take time to feed Abigail before we left so I fed her at Ryan's while we ate. The original plan was that I was going to take mom, Geneva and Abigail back to mom's house then come back for my Dr's appointment about my wisdom teeth. But, we were not going to have time to do that, since we hadn't been to Wal-Mart and Food 4 Less yet. So, we went ahead and went to Wal-Mart, then to my appt, then to Food 4 Less. Mom just stayed in the car with the girls while I went to my appt. My appt went well. I'm scheduled to have my wisdom teeth out on Oct 14. I put Abigail down for a nap when we got home. Chris came home with flowers and the movie Made of Honor, which I really wanted to see. He made a taco kind of hamburger helper for supper since I had a headache and after Abigail went to bed, we watched the movie- it was good.

I thought about going to town, but mom and I decided to go on Tuesday. Chris didn't come home for lunch. When he came home at the end of the day, he mentioned going to Logan's to eat. So, we did. Then we went to Wal-Mart to exchange and return a few things and to get formula for Abigail. We had an $80 booster seat that we weren't sure if we needed so we were going to return it. However, it was only worth $16 so we kept it. Then we went to Home Depot then back to Marietta. Gpa Shepherd had just gotten home in the afternoon, so mom was going to come to their house. I had Chris drop me off at their house then bring Abigail home and put her to bed. We talked about plans for when company will be here. Mom brought me home on her way home.

Sunday, September 14, 2008

For the first Sunday, we gave Abigail cereal before we went to church. I took her to cradle roll and she did well. I was able to get her to go to sleep during the announcements at the beginning of the worship service and she stayed asleep until the end of the service. We went home and ate leftovers from Applebee's on Saturday, then got ready to leave again. We went to the hospital to see Gpa Shepherd. He had another colonoscopy on Sunday morning and found where he was bleeding from, so that cauterized it and he hasn't had trouble since. Our congregation was having services at the Marietta Center at 2, so we went to that. Once again, I was able to get Abigail to go to sleep. She slept most of the evening service, too.

Mommy & Abigail ready for the OSU game

Abigail woke up around 7:30. Since I was already awake, I let Chris go back to sleep and I got up with her. I fed her cereal and later, put her back down for a nap. After Chris got up, we decided to go see Gpa at the Hospital and go to lunch at Applebee's. Abigail went to sleep on my mom's shoulder while we were at the Hospital, but since we would be headed to lunch, that was fine. We let her sleep for about half an hour before waking her up to leave. When we pulled into the shopping center where Applebee's is, we were reminded that today was a Carseat Check. Abigail is in a program called Help Me Grow and Help Me Grow was to receive money for each carseat that was checked. Since Help Me Grow has helped us out, we decided to stop. We had most things right with the carseat, but since I bought the seat at a yard sale they gave us another seat. We had no clue about the history of the seat, whether it had been in a wreck or not, so they recommended us getting another one. Since Abigail is already 16 lbs, the seat that we got is a convertible one, and it's even pink. After we got home, I tried to take a nap, but before I was able to get to sleep, I heard Abigail really fussing, so I got up to help Chris. Later on, I went to gma's to water her flowers since she had not had a chance to do it with being at the hospital with gpa. Abigail got extremely fussy, so I rocked her to sleep, then held her for an hour and a half or so. Then, we gave her cereal and a bath. Chris and I ate pizza at the start of the OSU game. Abigail stayed up to watch some of it since she took a nap till about 7:45 or so. She started getting fussy around 9 so we put her to bed. We were VERY UPSET with the outcome of the OSU game. They played very poorly.

Today was pretty much a normal day. Abigail ate her cereal good both times, rolled over a few times and was cute (as always). I was more tired than usual so when she napped, I tried to relax more than usual. Chris actually got to see her roll over today.
I've been trying to upload a couple videos, but it's not working. So, we have to settle for the picture.

Thursday, September 11, 2008

At about 8 this morning, I heard Abigail talking. I went ahead and got her up and let her play while I ate my breakfast. Then it was her turn- she did great again with her cereal then I put her back down for a nap. I went ahead and got a shower while she was sleeping. Mom called me after a little while to tell me that Gpa Shepherd was going to go to the ER. Mom brought Geneva and Gpa Wells here while she went to the Hospital to be with Gma. I was able to get some things done while Abigail slept, Geneva colored a picture and Gpa snoozed off and on. I got things ready and met mom at the hospital with Gpa, Geneva and Abigail. I had an appointment with my surgeon at 3. I waited over an hour to see him and he was in the room with me for less than 5 mins. Oh well. I went back to the ER to check on Gpa, who still had not been moved to a room, then Abigail and I went to Wal-Mart. She did well until the ride home. When we got home, I fed her cereal while Chris grilled burgers on the grill for us. She watched Baby Einstein while we ate, then Chris gave her a bath, I gave her a bottle, and Chris put her to bed.

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

At about 7:30 this morning, I heard Abigail in her crib talking. When I picked her up, her diaper had leaked. I went ahead and got her up and let her play for a while. When I tried to put her back down, she fought it so I got her up and fed her cereal. I started with 1/2 tablespoon. She ate that so well that I mixed up another 1/2 tablespoon. She ate that so well that I mixed up another 1/2 tablespoon, but that one didn't go too well. I guess 1 tablespoon was enough. Then, she cooperated and went to sleep. Mom and Geneva were here from 10:30-12:30. Abigail rolled over completely one time while they were here. After her afternoon nap, she rolled over completely a couple times for me. I fixed fried shrimp and fried oysters for supper. She did good at Bible class. When we got home, we gave her cereal which she ate well. Chris hadn't seen her eat cereal in a few days so he was very impressed with how well she ate it. We put her on the floor for a little while to see if she would roll over (Chris has not seen her roll over yet, either) but she wouldn't do it. We then gave her a bottle and put her to bed. We think she went to sleep without her binky. She was talking soon after I put her down (she doesn't normally talk with the binky in her mouth) and soon after, it was quiet.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

I woke up feeling pretty good. I had already made arrangements for Kathy to come spend a few hours with us since I wasn't completely up to par yet. She came about 8. Right before she came, I saw Abigail roll over, but she would not do it while Kathy was here. We played with Abigail for a little while, then fed her cereal, which she finished again, gave her a bottle and put her down for a nap. She slept for about an hour (typical Abigail nap) then we played with her some more. I put Abigail down for another nap, then Kathy left and Chris came home for lunch. In the afternoon, I got pretty tired b/c I was doing more with Abigail than what I had been used to. But, I relaxed some then felt pretty good to go to eat and shop with my mom and grandma Shepherd. It was Grandma Shepherd's 74th Birthday. I got very tired walking around the mall, but I slept better through the night than I have for a while.

Oh, also mom gave Abigail her first peanut at Logan's. Obviously she didn't eat, just held on to it for a little while.

Monday, September 8, 2008

Chris had to go back to work and since I am not fully healed from my surgery, we had planned that Abigail was going to go spend the day with my mom. I got up to get her ready to go. After they left, I went back to bed. Though I didn't go back to sleep, it was nice to be able to just rest. When I got up, I started doing somethings that I hadn't gotten done. I straightened somethings up, then got the sewing machine out and tried to figure out how it works (I have not done much at all with the sewing machine in the past). Chris came home for lunch and we figured out what we needed to know then after lunch, I started sewing. For Abigail, we have so many different OSU items, including outifts, bibs, booties, hairbows, a bracelet, etc. However, we did not have a spit-up cloth. You can't buy the OSU fabric, so I just bought a cheap OSU T-shirt and made a spit-up cloth for her. It is not prefect, but it turned out pretty good. After I was finished with that, I just kind of took it easy until Chris came home with Abigail. While she was at Gma's, Abigail rolled over from her back to her belly, then back to her back. After she got home, I played with her for a little while, then she took a short nap while I worked on supper. Later on, I gave her cereal (she finished all of what I had mixed up), gave her a bottle and put her to bed. She slept until 4.

Sunday, September 7, 2008

Once again, I woke up feeling pretty good. I was still a little sore, so I ate some cereal and took my medicine. I continued to get myself ready and put clothes on about the time we needed to go. I hadn't worn "normal" clothes (anything other than athletic pants and a T-shirt) since my surgery and when I put them on this morning, it hurt. I figured I would manage and we left. About 15 mins into Bible Class, I started feeling really weird. It was like I was tired but if I would go to sleep, I couldn't have stopped myself. I just didn't feel right. I put my bible and paper away and not long after I did that, I felt like I was going to pass out. I went ahead and had Chris bring me home, then he went back for worship service. I guess it was too soon. I have had a bit of a headache this afternoon, which increases the "strange" feeling. Chris and Abigail are now at evening services.

Sternwheel Festival weekend. I had talked to mom after her and dad went to the Sternwheel Festival on Friday night and it had me wanting to go today. I woke up feeling pretty good. I went and got Abigail up, changed her and brought her out to the living room. However, after I took my medicine, I determined that I would not be going to the S F because I was feeling strange again. We tried giving Abigail cereal again, then just hung out around the house. We watched the OSU game and other football games throughout the day. I think I took a couple of naps (or at least laid down). We had leftovers for supper and then Chuck and Kathy came about 7 or so. Abigail got a little fussy so I took her and she immediately fell asleep on my shoulder. She woke up again before they left and after they left, it was bathtime and bedtime for Abigail.

Friday, September 5, 2008

We all actually slept until about 8. After we got up, I took my medicine but soon after had to eat breakfast b/c I was feeling strange. We decided to try cereal again with Abigail. I fixed 1/2 tablespoon of cereal, then mixed in the formula. She did so well that she actually almost finished all of what I mixed up. It was great. I was still feeling strange from my medicine, so I went to lay down in the recliner while Abigail slept. Later on, I got a shower and got my bandage back on before Chris's gma Davis brought KFC for lunch. Abigail watched Baby Einstein while we ate lunch. Shedona (my roommate from college) called me and we talked for a little while. Please keep her family in your prayers. She lives in Houma, LA, which is the city that got hit the worst by Gustav. She went to Henderson, TN (where FHU is) and is hanging out there until electricity is back, which might be as late as Oct 1. I took a nap in the bedroom and woke up after 5. I gave Abigail her nighttime bottle at 11 or so. She fell asleep after she was done but I wouldn't let Chris put her to bed. I just wanted to hold her since I haven't been able to as much the last few days.

Thursday, September 4, 2008

I didn't get much sleep at all during the night, I just couldn't get comfortable. Abigail's physical therapist came at 10 and worked with Abigail for a little while. She is very pleased with how well Abigail's arm is doing. After she left, Chris and Abigail went to town. I needed my medicine and a few other things so he went to get them. I took a nap while they were gone. He brought a sandwich from Arby's back for lunch. I just took it easy and then mom brought homemade chicken noodle soup for supper. Chris grilled a couple bratwursts for his supper. After supper, I watched Enchanted and then I slept in the recliner in the living room.

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

We asked Kathy to be here around 7:30. Abigail woke up before that, but I went ahead and got her up so I could play with her some before I had to leave. We showed Kathy what she would need to know and then put Abigail back down before we left. I was to be at the Hospital at 8:30. I took a magazine but didn't read too much of it b/c nurses, etc were coming in almost constantly trying to get me ready for my surgery. The anesthesiologist came in and put something in my IV as a precursor to the anesthetic. I remember Chris putting his backpack on and kissing me and the nest thing I remember is waking up in that same room after the surgery was over. It was hard for me to keep my eyes open. I was in a good bit of pain, but not unbearable. They moved me to a recovery room downstairs. Kathy brought Abigail and I got to see her for a while. Chris was taking care of her but she started to get fussy and sleepy so mom took her back to her house. I got discharged after 6 but mom took Abigail to church and Chris and I went home. She was pretty good in church then Gma & Gpa brought her home to us.

Another trip to Children's Hospital. We left here around 7, so we got to Columbus a while before her appointment. We went ahead and stopped at Babies R Us and Sam's Club to get diapers, wipes and other various baby items before her appointment. When we got to the hospital, we weren't waiting too long before she got sleepy. I was able to put her to sleep soon after they took us back to the room. She asked us lots of questions but left and we waited for a while before the dr came in. It was good that she got a little nap in so she wasn't fussy. The doctor looked in her ears and did not see any fluid. So, we went back to the audiology department for her to have a couple other tests done. The first test showed that she doesn't have fluid in her ears, but she still didn't pass the other hearing test. We are to take her back on Sept 30 for her to have the better hearing test done. If the test shows a mild hearing loss like it did the last time, they might recommend hearing aides, just to make sure her speech will not be delayed. Please pray that she will pass the hearing test this next time.

Our county fair was going on. Neither of us had been there in a long time. Chris went to town to get something for his car and when he got back, we decided to go to the fair. It was the last time we will go for a while probably. It costs $8 to get in and there's not a whole lot to do. We stopped in the cow barn and got to see some of my family and a former teacher of mine. Other than that, we walked around, ate lunch and left shortly after. It was not worth $8 each to get in. Abigail fell asleep soon before we were ready to leave the fair. We came home and changed her outfit (it was soaked with sweat) and put her down for a nap. Later on, we got things ready for our trip to Columbus on Tuesday.

Sunday, August 31, 2008

Sunday was our congregation's turn to have services at a nursing home in Parkersburg in the afternoon. So, after church, Mom, Tim, Gpa Wells, Gma & Gpa Shepherd, Chris, Abigail and I went to Red Lobster to eat lunch. We each did something different for 45 mins or so, then met up again at the nursing home. Mom put Abigail to sleep during the service. After that, Chris went home with Gma & Gpa while Mom, Abigail and I went to an 80th Birthday Open House for someone mom knew (I kind of know her and I know her daughter). We came home and Abigail took a short nap before we were getting ready to go to evening services. Chuck and Kathy came in for church. Since it had been a long day with just a couple short naps for Abigail, she was kind of fussy during church, but luckily it was our song service. I was able to get her to sleep and she slept for a while.
